WARNING! EXPLICIT LANGUAGE CONTENT!
The weekend before New Year’s we hosted a jam session at East Avenue Recording, and got some interesting stuff on disc. Midnight arrived with Phil Anderson (most recorded musician at EAR), Ervin Sterling and Swami, and jammed with some of the other attendees. Mid started improvising lyrics with his usual “what ever is on my mind” content - this is raw, real emotional vocal venting with no concern for anything but his feelings at that moment, (and there are some truly revealing lyric choices) without the usual editing, production polishing or other digital manipulations. You are hearing samples of what the CD sounds like. These are some some of the better sections - true, the recording quality is not near as good as a commercial CD; the imperfect performances are by players in various and progressive stages of intoxication; on the disc, the full length track intros meander endlessly before the band finds a groove (if at all) and the endings stumble haphazardly to a finish; despite all these obvious shortcomings, there are places where the music finally jells (jams?) and those moments are worth waiting for! -when you find them, it’s like discovering a buried treasure ..........
